A California jury considered its verdict on Wednesday in the Apple-Samsung patent trial and asked the judge if there was any evidence that Steve Jobs had also wanted to target Google in the lawsuit.
The request was one of eight questions presented by the jury on its second day of deliberations in the smartphone patent trial. Apple is asking for $2.2 billion in damages for the violation of five smartphone patents, while Samsung wants to limit damages to $6 million.
The South Korean electronics giant also maintains that Google should be the defendant in the lawsuit since it makes the Android operating system that powers the Samsung phones.
Wednesday's questions by the jury indicate that it is weighing that option. But Judge Lucy Koh offered them no help on the issue, informing the eight-person panel that they had to draw their own conclusions based on the evidence presented in the trial.
"We want them to know we can't give them more facts at this point," Koh said, according to a report by Cnet.com.
In a previous trial Apple won more than $900 million in damages for Samsung's patent violations. The current trial, which began on March 31, covers more recent smartphones, such as the iPhone 5 and Samsung's Galaxy S3.
