North and South Korea resumed talks on Tuesday to reopen the jointly operated Kaesong industrial park, officials said, after an agreement last month to end a five-month stalemate.
South Korea’s Ministry of Unification said the negotiations would focus on ensuring normal operation without interruption.
“Our team will focus on making the park a convenient and worry-free place for South Korean companies to do business,” Kim Ki Woong, Seoul’s chief delegate, was quoted by Yonhap as saying.
Both sides agreed in August to work toward reopening the industrial park, which hosted 123 South Korean factories and employed more than 53,000 North Korean labourers before Pyongyang closed it in April.
North and South Korea also reopened a cross-border military hotline last Friday, paving the way for the reopening of the industrial park.
