Police in Los Angeles have arrested a man for allegedly making shooting threats to “multiple elementary schools” in a post on Facebook, a spokeswoman and reports said yesterday.
The suspect was arrested on Sunday, after officers went to his home and found weapons there, the NBC4 television channel reported. The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) was also involved, it said.
“Threats were made against multiple elementary schools,” said Venus Hall, a spokeswoman for the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD), declining to elaborate.
In a post on the Facebook social network, the man threatened to “conduct shootings” at the schools, the Los Angeles Times reported. Police sources would not specify how many or which schools were mentioned, the newspaper reported.
The alleged threats came as the United States reels from a massacre at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut on Friday which left 27 people dead including 20 young children and six adults.
The shooter, who killed his mother at the house they shared before embarking on the school massacre, took his own life as police closed in.
