US President Barack Obama was not planning a bilateral meeting with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rowhani on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly that starts on Tuesday, an official said.

Earlier news reports had indicated such a meeting might take place.

“There are currently no plans for the President and President Rouhani to meet at UNGA,” Bernadette Meehan, spokeswoman for the US National Security Council, was quoted as saying by several news reports.

Both presidents are due to address the UN on September 24.
