US President Barack Obama will visit four Asian countries next month on a week-long trip largely focused on promoting economic and security ties, the White House announced on Friday.
Obama will leave October 6 for Indonesia where he will and take part in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economics Leaders meeting. From there he will travel on to Brunei, Malaysia and the Philippines.
While in Indonesia, the President also will meet with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. In Brunei, Obama will meet with the Sultan of Brunei and attend the US-ASEAN (Association of South Easter Asian Nations) summit and the East Asia summit.
The President will conclude his trip in Malaysia, where he will deliver the keynote address to the Global Entrepreneurship Summit and meet with Prime Minister Najib Razak. Obama returns to Washington on October 12.
Obama’s final stop will be in the Philippines, where he will meet with President Benigno Aquino III.
