The office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas confirmed late on Thursday that Prime Minister Rami Hamdallah submitted his resignation.
Hamdallah, who took office only two weeks ago, submitted his resignation to Abbas citing “infringement on his authority” as the reason, according to his office.
Presidential spokesman Nabil Abu Rudeineh said in a brief statement published on the official WAFA news agency that Hamdallah submitted his resignation to Abbas and that “the president will study this resignation.” Sources close to Abbas said several attempts by Abbas’ office to convince Hamdallah to withdraw his resignation failed.
They said Abbas was not pleased with the resignation and that he may give Hamdallah another chance to withdraw it.
