Protest against Portugal’s austerity drive

More than 100,000 people went on protest, in Lisbon and other Portuguese cities to protest against fresh austerity measures by the government.

In Lisbon, protesters clashed with police. University students and artists called for protests on Facebook.

The European Union, International Monetary Fund and the European Central Bank are monitoring the country’s implementation of cuts and reforms for $102 billion rescue package in 2011.
