The United States has refuted reports that it is halting all its military assistance to Egypt.
“The reports that we are halting all military assistance to Egypt are false,” the National Security Council spokesperson, Caitlin Hayden, said yesterday.
“We will announce the future of our assistance relationship with Egypt in the coming days, but as the President made clear at UNGA (UN General Assembly), that assistance relationship will continue,” Hayden said on news reports that the White House has decided to stop all US military aid to Egypt.
Quoting an unnamed US official, the CNN said the Obama Administration will cut off aid to Egypt in the wake of the July coup against President Mohamed Morsy and the turmoil that has followed.
The news channel said the US has not yet notified the Egyptians of the decision to cut off military aid.
In addition to the suspension of some military aid earlier this year, there has also been a severe slowdown in military shipments from the United States to Egypt, including F-16s, it reported.
