Sony has sold more than 5.3 million Playstation 4 video game consoles since launching the device late last year, the company said on Tuesday.
The sales figure surpassed Sony’s first year sales target of 5 million in less than four months.
“I am thrilled that so many customers around the globe have continued to select PS4 as the best place to play throughout and beyond the holiday season,” Sony CEO Andrew House said in a statement.
Launched in the US in November, the console was snapped up by more than 1 million customers in its first week on the market. The device is set to go on sale in Japan this weekend.
