Tourist arrivals up in Nepal

Nepal’s overall tourist arrivals by air have increased by six per cent to 51,105 in May 2014 as compared to the same period last year but the number of Indian visitors decreased by seven per cent to 18,720, according to official figures released on Friday.

During the period, Nepal witnessed increase in number of tourist arrivals from other South Asian countries, namely, Bangladesh by 49 per cent, Sri Lanka by 34 per cent and Pakistan by 26 per cent, according to a data released by Nepal Tourism Board.

However, arrivals from China, Malaysia, Singapore and South Korea witnessed increments of 96 per cent, 108.75 per cent, 73.7 and 76 per cent respectively.

European market grew by 4.68 per cent while tourist arrivals from USA, Canada, Australia and New Zealand have increased by 34 per cent 17 per cent, 36 per cent and 34 per cent respectively. In April, a total of 12,871 Indian tourists visited Nepal by air.
