The United States has congratulated Nepal on the formation of a new interim government which will take forward the responsibility of overseeing national elections.
“This has been a complex and challenging process, and we commend the parties for their willingness to make the compromises necessary to achieve this important political milestone,” State Department spokesperson Victoria Nuland told reporters at her daily news conference.
“The next step will be completing and adopting Nepal’s new Constitution and then holding free, fair and inclusive national elections that reflect the will of the Nepali people,” she said.
“The United States would also welcome further progress by the parties that will continue to safeguard the rights of all citizens and affirm the national commitment to building a democratic, representative and prosperous Nepal,” Nuland said.
Ending months of political deadlock, an interim election government led by Chief Justice Khil Raj Regmi had yesterday assumed power in the Himalayan nation.
