The US will take part in UN climate change meetings in Germany next week even as Washington considers withdrawing from the Paris global emissions-cutting deal.
But a State Department official says participating in the meetings doesn’t mean the US plans to stay in the Paris deal.
The Trump administration is reviewing whether to withdraw and a decision is expected in the next few weeks.
The official said on Friday the US delegation will be much smaller than in recent years. The official wasn’t authorised to comment by name and requested anonymity.
State Department official Trigg Talley will lead the delegation. He’s the deputy special envoy for climate change.
The Trump administration hasn’t filled the special envoy position.
