Unemployment rate in the United States dropped to 7.6 per cent in March, as against 7.7 per cent the previous month, with addition of some 88,000 jobs, according to latest job figures today.
“Both the number of unemployed persons, at 11.7 million, and the unemployment rate, at 7.6 per cent, were little changed in March,” the Department of Labor Statistics said.
Among the major worker groups, unemployment rates for adult men (6.9 per cent), adult women (7.0 per cent), teenagers (24. 2 per cent); whites (6.7 per cent), blacks (13.3 per cent), and Hispanics (9.2 per cent) showed little or no change in March.
The jobless rate for Asians was 5.0 per cent changed little from a year earlier, official figures said.
Total non-farm payroll employment edged up in March (88,000).
Over the prior 12 months, employment growth had averaged 169,000 a month, according to figures.
In March, employment increased in healthcare and in professional and business services while retail trade employment declined.
