Volkswagen is recalling 589,000 small vans to check bolts on the tailgate doors, a spokesman for Europe’s biggest carmaker said on Wednesday in Wolfsburg.
He said the bolts, which attach a pressure cylinder to rear doors of Caddy light delivery vans manufactured since 2003, might be defective.
The pressure cylinders slow the movement of the doors so they do not slam. Owners in Germany and abroad will be asked to take the vans to garages to receive new mounts. He said the defect was discovered by Volkswagen’s post-sales quality checks.
