Nearly eight weeks after the announcement of Lok Sabha election results, it was celebration time once again at ‘Shree Kamalam’, the State headquarters of the BJP.
The celebration spilled over to the entire State minutes after Home Minister and BJP President Rajnath Singh named Amit Shah as the next party President in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
A close aide of Modi and the brain behind the party’s sweeping victory in Uttar Pradesh, Shah has been a popular leader in his State.
BJP workers at the district and town level came out in large numbers to celebrate his appointment with bike rallies, firecrackers, drums and sweets as “yet another Gujarati” assumed a top post, this time in the party.
The revelry was particularly high at Shah’s Assembly constituency of Naranpura in Ahmedabad.
Joy and pride Senior ministers, MLAs and party workers joined the celebration at Shree Kamalam. Senior party leaders Bhikhubhai Dalsaniya and Bharat Pandya, and ministers Babu Bokhiriya, Ganpat Vasava and Govind Patel were among those who participated in the festivities.
The party’s State unit head RC Faldu and spokesperson IK Jadeja thanked the Central party leadership and Rajnath for selecting Shah. The appointment brought joy and pride to party workers, they said.
Gujarat Chief Minister Anandi Patel congratulated Shah.
In her message, she praised him for rising from a humble party worker during the 1980s to reach such a high position in the party by displaying strong organisational skills.
