A 26-year-old BCA student was shot dead by an unidentified man when he resisted the latter’s bid to eve tease his woman companion, police said today.
The incident occurred last night at Untkhana area here when Roshan Samrit, a Bachelor of Computer Application student, was driving a two-wheeler along with the woman pillion rider. Two youths, who were following them for some time, accosted the girl, they said.
Irked by this, Roshan stopped his vehicle and confronted the duo, when one of them pulled a country-made pistol and fired at Roshan, who was injured in his neck.
He was rushed to Medical College hospital by his cousin Sumit Bele, who was on another two-wheeler, but Roshan succumbed to the injury, police said.
A case under relevant sections of IPC has been registered at Imambada police station and a search is on to trace the accused.
In a separate incident, a 45-year-old police constable, part of the patrolling team in Mufti, was shot at by two criminals at Nandanwan area in eastern part of city, police said.
The accused, identified as Mohsin Ansari and Raja Gouse, also beat up constables while one of them fired a round from his firearm which hit constable Battulal Pande in his palm.
Police said while Mohsin was arrested, his aide Gouse managed to escape.
Offences under various sections of IPC and Firearms Act were registered, police said.
