Premier business school IIM Ahmedabad has recruited eight faculty members including Director Ashish Nanda himself, who took charge recently. The current faculty strength for an overall student population of 1,009 now stands at 91.
Even after the sizeable recruitment drive, the institute is short of 20 faculty members to achieve the ideal student-faculty ratio.
The new faculty will teach quantitative methods, organisational behaviour, finance and accounting, marketing, business policy, public systems, leadership, and economics. Five newly-recruited members come with international experience in teaching.
The recruitments may also be seen as an effort to increase research opportunities for new and existing faculty. More faculty members will mean less teaching time for each member, leaving more time for research. IIM-A currently scores very low on research parameters as international rankings by Financial Times show.
At a recent press conference at IIM-A, Nanda and the Chairman, Board of Governors, A. M. Naik, also appointed Prof. Vasant Gandhi and Prof. Rekha Jain to the IIM-A Board as faculty representatives.
