The highest stipend for the summer internships at IIM Shillong has marginally increased by 7.3 per cent this year. A highest stipend of ₹1.61 lakh was offered to students for a two-month internship by a consulting firm and an IT/analytics firm this year. Last year a general management role had attracted the highest stipend of ₹1.5 lakh.

The highest stipend for a finance role has also increased from last year’s ₹60,000 to ₹1 lakh this year, a jump of 67 per cent.

The average stipend, on the other hand, for a batch of 119 first students stood at ₹48,000. With an increase in batch size, the number of companies which recruited interns from IIM Shillong has also increased by 10 per cent from last year’s 51 to 60 in 2014.

Leadership programmes The coveted general management profiles for leadership training programmes were offered by Aditya Birla Group and Mahindra GMC. Siemens was the biggest recruiter in the strategy domain and first time recruiter Deloitte extended the maximum number of internships at the campus with six offers. Ten per cent of the batch strength was offered internships in strategy and general management roles.

Around 27 per cent of the batch was offered internships in sales and marketing profiles from sectors such as media, FMCG, e-commerce, and automobiles. A total of 26 per cent of the batch were offered internships in the finance domain with recruiters such as JP Morgan, SBI Capital Markets and ICICI Bank participating in the process. Nine per cent of the batch received internships in operations domain and 10 per cent were offered roles by IT/Analytics firms.

Trend Setters Perfetti Van Melle, JP Morgan, and Hero Motocorp recruited first time from IIM Shillong. Several students have opted to pursue internships in start-ups to get hands-on experience in building and running one’s own venture.
