The latest incident of rape reported from our Capital only serves to shame us, as a nation, as a society, as human beings. What can we do, collectively and individually, to address this degradation in our moral, political, social fibre? What systems can we put in place to tackle such issues, both at the grassroots, practical level, and at the larger, sociological level? As future leaders of industry, the nation and the world, what must we do on college campuses and workplaces that reflect positive action on our part?

Do write in with your ideas on this very vexing problem. It’s not new, but it shows no signs of abating.

The December 13 issue of Cambuzz featured a thoughtful, reasonable article entitled ‘Slow ride, sweet ride, safe ride’. The title tells the story succintly, yet every day there are road accidents that need never have happened. A free road, powerful wheels and a heart that dares… but all it takes is a second for the adrenaline high to become a tragedy.

At a more mundane level, why do we get impatient at lights, why do we push ahead despite the traffic, why do we bully on the roads, why do we drive against the traffic on one-way streets, why do we bear down on pedestrians… why do we simply refuse to follow rules? Can we create a system that manages road behaviour, no matter the personality type?
