Share list: Harshad files affidavit
Mr Harshad Mehta filed an affidavit listing all the shares held by him and his associates before the Special Court hearing the securities scam case. Sources told Business Line that the list had been sent to the Income-Tax Department. The document would be submitted to the Special Court of Mr Justice S. N. Variava on March 2.
Ban on toxic waste export from rich nations urged
As part of a growing international movement to ban global trafficking in hazardous wastes, the People’s Commission on Environment and Development India, has urged the Foreign Minister to press for a permanent ban on toxic waste export from rich to poorer countries. Proposals to ban global waste dumping will be discussed at a Conference of the parties to the Basel Convention on the control of the transboundary movement of hazardous wastes, to be held in Geneva from March 21 to 25 ... Australia, Canada, Finland, Germany, Japan, the U.K. and the U.S. now actively oppose a complete ban.
Finalisation of bottle sizes: Govt apathy irks Pepsico
Pressure tactics are being brought to play in the cola wars now. The Prime Minister’s Office is receiving missives from multinationals’ chief executive officers complaining about the Government’s tardiness. Mr. Christopher Sinclair, President of Pepsi Cola International, has sent a formal complaint about the Government dragging its feet on the rationalisation of soft drink bottle sizes ... Industry sources say this delay is helping Coke, which with its 300 ml bottle, is cutting in on Pepsi's market share. Pepsi at present has only 250 ml bottles and is hesitant to invest in the 300 ml segment till a firm decision is taken.
