JK Rowling, the acclaimed author of Harry Potter series, is penning her first novel for adults.
Ms Rowling, who is worth an estimated £530 million, said that she has signed a deal to publish her first novel for adults, which will be nothing like Potter books that have been international best-sellers and inspired a series of hit films.
She also said that with the move from children’s to adult fiction, a move to a new publisher seemed like a logical step.
“Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Mr Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world.
“The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher.
“I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life,” ‘The Daily Telegraph’ quoted Ms Rowling as saying.
Details about the new book are a closely guarded secret and its title and publication date will be announced later this year.
Little, Brown, which is also home to authors such as Alexander McCall Smith and Jenny Colgan, refused to comment on the book, beyond saying that its title, publishing date and “further details” will be announced later this year.
In a statement, Mr Bloomsbury said: “We are proud to be JK Rowling’s longstanding children’s book publisher. The relationship between JK Rowling and Bloomsbury remains stronger than ever.”
