Air-India wins global award for in-flight meals

Air-India has won the Mercury Award Gold shield for the finest meal service concept …It was adjudged the best among 52 entries in this annual competition open to all airlines and catering agencies. The main criteria for determining the winner is innovation, quality and application resulting in improved products, services, hygiene, economy, safety and customer satisfaction.

Boycott Benetton

A French minister called for a boycott of Benetton clothes in protest at the Italian company’s latest shock advertisement featuring the blood-drenched clothes of a soldier killed in Bosnia … The advertisements (were) part of a $15-million campaign in newspapers and on billboards in 110 countries. Benetton said the clothes were worn by Marinko Gagro, a Bosnian Croat soldier killed last July in a battle at Hum near Mostar.

Forex reserves soar

India’s balance of payments position is comfortable, thanks to the growth in exports and foreign exchange reserves coupled with the negative growth in imports and stability of the rupee against the dollar and yen. According to the latest monthly economic report, the foreign exchange reserves soared to $10.49 billion in January, sufficient to meet the country’s four months’ import requirements. Foreign exchange reserves (excluding gold and SDRs) increased to $6,434 million at the end of March 1993. By January-end these reserves increased by $4,057 , the report said. Between April and December 1993, exports increased by 19.9 per cent in dollar terms against a 3.4 per cent rise in the same period in 1992.
