Samsung Electronics on Thursday launched its next big bet in the smart phone segment - the Galaxy S3 in India for Rs 43,180.
Widely believed to be better than Apple’s latest iPhone model, the Galaxy S3 tracks the user’s eye movements to keep the screen from dimming or turning off while in use. The device hits the stores starting today.
Galaxy S3 features
The smartphone, running on Google’s Android operating system, boasts a 4.8-inch (12.2 cm) screen, one of the largest on smartphones ever, and much bigger than the 3.5-inch display on the iPhone 4S.
The phoneI features a 1.4GHz quad core exynos processor, 1GB of RAM, a 4.8 Super AMOLED HD display with a resolution of 1280×720 pixels, an 8-megapixel camera with zero shutter lag and 1080p video capture and a 1.9-megapixel front facing camera.
Additionally, Samsung has equipped the device with a relatively large 2,100 mAh battery, an ultra light and ergonomic design with a finish called “hyperglaze”.
Memory size
Samsung is offering only the 16 GB device in India but it provides scope for memory expansion via microSDX support for up to 64 GB.
Samsung has also tied up with Vodafone to provide 3GB of data for free for two months. It also includes a Siri like voice interface called S-Voice.
Samsung sales
Globally, Samsung sold 44.5 million smartphones in January-March — giving it 30.6 per cent market share.
Apple sold 35.1 million iPhones, taking 24.1 per cent market share. In India, Samsung wants to capture 60 per cent of the smartphone segment but the price of the new device has caught many by surprise.
