This refers to ‘Inflation targeting makes no sense’ by V Kumaraswamy (February 19). The writer is wrong. Inflation targeting makes absolute sense. Low and stable inflation will eventually bring back growth and jobs.
The entire investment community is bullish in India because we have a good macro economic environment; this stability is seen in the stability of our currency and low current account deficit. The current account is not just a number, it’s a reflection of our savings and investments, where inflation plays a major role. We should continue to target inflation for growth and jobs to revive.

Scapegoating tactics
It is now clear that Kanhaiya Kumar has been targeted for striving for social change and opposing communal politics. The doctored video in which he is shown to be shouting slogans, of which his lips and throat were innocent, is a clear illustration of this fact. In the authentic video he was only shouting slogans such as “Azadi from poverty”, “Azadi from capitalism”, “Azadi from caste” and “Azadi from communalism”. The videos were overlaid to implicate Kumar falsely and prosecute him under the sedition law.
The airing of the fake visual fuelled anger and led to violence in the court premises. Unfortunately, all sorts of fake visuals are now doing the rounds in the social media.
Things have come to such a pass that citizens are required to demonstrate their patriotism to the satisfaction of Hindu revivalists. Pseudo-patriots who represent and serve the interests of India's elites, label those who strive for the welfare of the people as anti-nationals.
The BJP, which tries to appropriate the legacy of BR Ambedkar will do well to install the statute of India’s greatest social revolutionary by the side of the national flag that will henceforth fly at all varsities to arouse patriotic fervour and inspire the students.

Too little, too late
With reference to the report, ‘Apex court lifts status quo on Arunachal govt formation (February 19), the possibility of revoking President’s Rule has brightened with the Supreme Court vacating its order to maintain status quo. The Congress lost the opportunity by not acting with alacrity to quell dissident activity against the chief minister. Now the party has moved the Supreme Court to issue an order to stop the formation of a new government by 19 rebel 19 Congress MLAs along with 11 BJP and two independent members. This is akin to bolting the stable after all the horses escape.

Tragic death
The death of a class 5 student of a government school near Sunguvachatram after she collapsed during PT period emphasises that PE teachers must ensure that only healthy children participate in sports. Also, class teachers must have a detailed health history of every student. Those who are ailing should allowed to play indoor games, such as chess. Parents must not hide health facts from the school authorities.

Annual reports
Under the green initiative, a copy of the annual accounts is sent by email. What about those who do not have email ids? Every shareholder is entitled to a printed copy of it, and every year they have to make a written request to the company for it. Is this the law? That unless you have an email id you won’t get a copy of the annual report?
It is not practical to write every year to every company requesting these reports, and many times I have not received them.The concerned authorities must ensure that every shareholder receives a printed copy if he/she has no email id or chooses to withdraw the email id. The green initiative has become a mockery of the law.
A chartered accountant or company secretary must certify annually in writing that shareholders are receiving printed copies, and whether they have opted to receive it electronically or as hard copies.
