In 1967, motorcyclist Burt Munro set a motorcycle speed record in the 1000 cc class that still stands today. He hit over 296 kmph on the Bonneville Salt Flats in Utah, USA on a modified Indian Scout. Fifty years later, in August 2017, Indian Motorcycle collaborated with Swiss luxury timepiece-makers Baume & Mercier to create limited edition timepieces to celebrate Munro — the Clifton Club Indian Burt Munro Tribute and the Clifton Club Indian Legend watches.

The Clifton Club Indian Burt Munro Tribute is a self-winding chronograph edition and features a number of special details designed to commemorate Munro’s feat. Immediately apparent is Munro’s lucky number, 35, in the second counter at 9 o’clock highlighted by a horizontal black line, recalling one of the noticeable decor featured on the shell. The dial itself is silver-colored with sandblasted finishes, meant to mimic the surface of the Bonneville Salt Flats, where the record was set. On the case back, housing the self-winding Valjoux 7750 caliber, the famous Indian Headdress logo of the Indian Motorcycle Company is engraved, as well as the number of the limited edition: “one out of 1967”.

The Clifton Club Indian Legend Tribute, Scout watch is housed within a 44 mm polished, satin-finished stainless steel case. The date disc displays “1901” at the 19th day of the month to recall Indian Motorcycle’s foundation date, which is engraved on the screw down case back, along with the company’s logo. The Clifton Club Indian Legend, Chief timepiece is also encased in a similar casing and has a self-winding movement.

These timepieces will be presented in a special box as well.
