While elsewhere in the industry, very contrarian views are being expressed about the future of diesel powertrains, Jaguar Land Rover India has gone ahead and announced the launch of the two-litre diesel derivative of the model year 2019 Land Rover Discovery. This is the compact advanced Ingenium diesel engine that features twin turbos that are set in series to help generate more power and torque across the rpm-band.
Available in S, SE, HSE and HSE Luxury trim, the new derivative is powered by the 2.0-litre high-powered diesel Ingenium engine producing a power output of 177 kW (240 PS) and peak torque of 500 Nm. This engine is the first Jaguar Land Rover powerplant to feature series sequential turbo technology to deliver its additional thrust. The twin turbocharger’s back-to-back set-up helps improve transient performance, especially low speed torque and simultaneously reduces fuel consumption.
An official press statement mentions that the Discovery combines the flexibility of a well crafted full-size seven seat interior, packed full of design details with dramatic proportions, clean modern lines and a dynamic silhouette.
For 2019, the Discovery 2.0-litre diesel offers a rich set of features to choose from, including electrically reclining seats, intelligent seat fold, four-zone climate control, powered third row seats, a panoramic sunroof, cabin air ionisation, 360-degree surround camera, adaptive cruise control and remote.
The Discovery has a best-in-class approach angle (34-degrees), ramp angle (27.5-degrees) and departure angle (30-degrees), a water-wading depth capability of 900 mm and a 3,500 kg towing capacity.
Prices for the new variant start at ₹75.18 lakh (ex-showroom).
