The Civic has been sorely missed since it was withdrawn from the market by Honda a few years ago. The lack of a diesel engine in the range when the market was heavily skewed in favour of the fuel was one of the reasons. Most of the buyers that did buy the petrol Civic and the Hybrid sibling have held on to their cars.
But Civic fans can rejoice since Honda Cars India is bringing back the iconic sedan to our shores next month. The new 2019 model year Civic is much more coupe-like with a sharply sloping roofline at the rear. The notchback-style rear matches the taut front side giving the new Civic a very sporty, aerodynamic profile. Strong Honda DNA comes through in the exterior design as will be in the choice of interior trim. The new Civic is likely to be offered with the choice of a 1.8-litre iVTEC petrol engine and a 1.6-litre iDTEC diesel engine. Both are likely to be offered with manual gearboxes as standard, while the petrol engine may be offered with a CVT automatic transmission as an option.
In the meantime, Honda has also launched a new top-end variant of the City petrol manual version in the ZX MT, priced at ₹12.75 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). New safety features like rear parking sensors and speed warning indicators have also been made standard across all variants of the City. The erstwhile ‘S’ variant has been dropped and the City will now be available in four grades SV, V, VX and the new ZX for the petrol and diesel engine versions.
