Renault India has finally confirmed that it will be launching the Captur later this year. Our guess is it will be here before the festive season and will be priced in the ₹12 lakh to ₹20 lakh range.
Despite the new cess on luxury cars and sports utilities, the SUV or the crossover is still set to be the raging favourite amongst Indian car buyers. With the plans for the Captur firming up, Renault will be looking to replicate the success it had with the Duster, more so given the relatively tepid response to the Koleos — its other premium SUV.
Renault India will also be looking to price the new Captur aggressively and has chosen to bring in the version of the new model based on the Duster platform and not the Euro-spec version of the Captur, which is based on the more expensive Clio platform. The new model could share a lot more than just the platform with the Duster and many of its components being manufactured locally. Shared parts between the Duster and the Captur could also include the powertrains from the former.
The Captur has strong French design cues and crossover lines, clearly reflecting Renault’s new design DNA in line with the company’s recent product introductions. The company claims that it has an aggressive plan to launch the Captur in India, with several innovative initiatives planned over the next few months.
