Rajiv Bajaj, MD of Bajaj Auto, is hopeful that it is only a matter of time before the Qute debuts in India. He also discusses his views on NCAP’s findings in this email interview.

Are the Global NCAP results on the Qute a matter of concern for Bajaj in overseas markets where it is being retailed?

On the contrary we are delighted to know that in our maiden endeavour, we have matched several leading European quadricycles while exceeding others. We hope to leverage this verdict positively to the benefit of our customers.

What do you have to say about Volkswagen's response to your statement on the crash test?

I would say that given that Bajaj is an interested party don't take our word on what we have quoted...VW's credibility you may judge for yourself in light of their recent emissions scandal. If I were you, I would take a look at the results for myself to confirm what we have quoted.

Do you think you are rubbing some carmakers the wrong way in the process?

Why should that be the case? As the world's largest 3-wheeler maker we offer convenient and affordable intra-city transport that no car can. All we are doing with the Qute is to make that service safer and greener. All my life I have heard people implore my father to make a better 3-wheeler. We can't be damned if we do and damned if we don't!

Finally, are you concerned that NCAP’s results on Qute could impact its India showing when it is finally launched here?

On the contrary I am hopeful that the Qute's favourable NCAP result, coming on the back of an export plan of nearly 10,000 units this year to over 20 markets, should serve to hasten its introduction in India.
