There is good news from Meghalaya on the tourism front.
This year its International Cherry Blossom Festival has tripled in terms of footfalls.
Held from November 8 to 11, it created a scenic ambience of pink and white cherry blossoms at the Wards Lake, while tourists watched shows depicting the local culture at the Polo Grounds and tasted the food and brew of the region.
The visitor count was nearly 60,000 on all the four days, as against about 20,000 last year, and the fee collection too doubled, according to an official of the host organisation, the Institute of Bio-Resources and Sustainable Development (IBSD), which organised it along with the State Forest and Environment Department.
