The number of registered websites which feature the word “crowdfund” has grown tenfold over the past two years and is currently over 9,000, according to a report in crowdsourcing.org.

Kickstarter.com, one of the leaders in the space, now features crowd-funding projects where entrepreneurs are seeking in excess of a million dollars — a far cry from the first project, an art project which received $37.
