The company let's you make what you want of your job. A great example of expressing a noble corporate sentiment that clearly hides more than it reveals. What they don't tell you is that the world is not an ideal place ( Ceteris Paribus , all things being equal, being a condition that only those who subscribe to that dismal science called Economics believe in) and soon workplace pressures ensure that a person does what the company expects him to do.
When questioned, the corporate honchos will tell you that everyone will have to operate under constraints and that success will visit those who operate in this manner and are carried away by Utopian notions of complete freedom.
A recasting of the compensation mechanism is underway. These are the actual words I heard sometime ago at a company meeting addressed by the chief of HR. The statement lends hope that: something new is coming up; the changes will be handled scientifically and equitably; and, the change will be for the better of all concerned.
More likely, this is a camouflage to hide the true intent of the senior folks: Fox them and fix them!
