The ‘comfort’ gap

When it comes to finances, comfortable, well-off and secure cannot be used interchangeably, a survey has found. According to the latest US Financial Security Index, a majority of Americans (59 per cent) say it’s not possible for someone to achieve financial security with a middle-class income. They also expressed concerns about what can be called a ‘comfort gap’. Half of them polled said the middle-class income of $50,000 to $100,000 was enough to live comfortably. However, just 34 per cent consider someone earning a $50,000 to $100,000 income as “financially well-off.”
