Wages
Swiss miss
Swiss voters on Sunday rejected a plan to introduce what would have been the world’s highest minimum wages. The proposal was to set minimum wage at SFr22 per hour, or around SFr4,000 (₹2,62,720) per month. However, 76 per cent of Swiss voters rejected the idea. Many small businesses had said that they would be forced to close, and unemployment would actually go up, if such high wages were enforced. Clearly, the pragmatic Swiss believe in the “a bird in hand” adage!
