Online networking sites that are popular with youngsters, and which often serve as a chronicle of people’s beliefs, opinions and day-to-day activities, are now attracting recruiters too. Among the many sites Facebook, which is estimated to have 49 per cent people in the prime hiring age of 18-24 years, is the most popular site for employers wanting to do a “background check” on potential employees.
Do posts on informal networking sites give a balanced idea about a person’s professional potential? Should one’s life outside the office be used to judge a person while or before conducting a job interview?
