Desktops still rule

When it comes to office gadgets, most employers provide desktop PCs to their workers, finds a recent survey. Although 80 percent of workers surveyed got one or more corporate-issued devices, desktops ruled, with more than half the workers receiving them. Thirty-six percent of workers surveyed in the 2016 Gartner Personal Technologies Study received laptops. Just 23 percent of employees were given smartphones; the rest used personally owned devices.

The mommy track

Consultancy firm PwC India has launched Full Circle, a programme that allows women employees to take leave for up to three years for childcare once during their employment. Even during the break, the employee will have access to trainings and marquee events at the firm, and can continue to avail of health and welfare benefits. Women account for a third of PwC’s workforce in India. Earlier this year, PwC had revised the duration of paid maternity leave from 12 weeks to 26 weeks.

Talk to Jinie

HR solutions firm PeopleStrong has launched Jinie, a chatbot for the workplace. It is like an employee’s personal worklife assistant and can help solve any HR-related query. To apply for leave or manage any employee transaction, employees can talk to Jinie, who resides inside Alt Messenger, a PeopleStrong enterprise chat platform that is claimed to be more secure than WhatsApp.
