On March 13, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the TB Summit, a first-of-its-kind Government initiative. The Summit, part of a larger plan to end tuberculosis in India by 2025, ahead of the global 2030 target, is expected to give a booster shot to the National Strategic Plan for TB Elimination. It is likely to see the participation of key stakeholders. Last month’s Union Budget made a financial provision for the nutritional support of people on TB medication. The Summit comes at a time when parts of the country face problems with the procurement of TB medicines, even as the concern on resistance to TB drugs hangs constantly over the treatment plan.
