From the United Nation’s International day against drug abuse and illicit trafficking (June 26) to Doctor’s Day (July 1), the fortnight ahead marks many eventful days. On tackling drug problems, UN member states have committed to a plan of action and goals by 2019. And as Doctor’s Day approaches, healers in the country have much introspection to do with criticism coming from within the fraternity, as a recent book spotlighted. Also, the Medical Council of India is set for an overhaul, with a Parliamentary committee report tearing into its functioning. The case on irrational fixed dose combination medicines is scheduled to come up. Early July, France hosts a conference on health and climate, in a follow up to the Paris climate agreement last year.
