Two major developments involving the pharmaceutical industry are scheduled to come up. The draft Pharmaceutical Policy 2017 is set be discussed on August 30, and stakeholders, including patient and advocacy groups and medical representatives, are expected to participate.
The draft Policy takes an over-arching view of a host of ills plaguing the domestic drug industry, including its unhealthy over-dependance on other countries for raw materials, lack of investment in research and marketing practices of medicines to doctors.
Separately, at the Supreme Court, a case involving the Centre’s ban on 344 fixed drug combination medicines is also expected to come up later this fortnight.
