Running, for me, has been transformational. In the real world your talent will rarely solve the biggest challenges of life. Running helps you change your attitude, your perspective about yourself.

My day begins at 4.30 am and by about 5.15 am I set out on a 90-minute work-out. If I have a marathon coming up, then the weeks building up to it are focused on hill training (gradient), tempo training for speed and so on. I also have two yoga sessions a week for core strength training and discipline.

My diet is moderate and the “nono” is really to do with timing. No sweets before bed. I have a light dinner, supplemented with fruits. So it’s not what you eat but when.

I am not superhuman, so it’s important to strike a balance between family, your job and other targets. Meditation has become a recent addition in my routine. It helps stay focussed, centred and to unwind.

Persistence, passion, self-confidence, waking up with no hangover of failure, making happiness your choice, enjoying the journey, are a few aspects that running changed in me forever. Do not deprive yourself of a chance, a goal, a tear of joy!
