Cardiac surgeon, Founder Narayana Health hospitals
1. I start my day at 4.30 am and exercise for an hour. I used to practise martial arts (karate) in medical school, but now I walk on the treadmill. Alongside this, I read and reply to my e-mails on the Ipad.
2. I start surgery at the hospital at 8 am and it ends at around 12.30 pm. The rest of the day, I am at outpatient wards. I reach home by 9 pm and after dinner, I am off to bed by 11.30 pm.
3. I am a teetotaller and I do not smoke. I am careful with what I eat. I have lots of salad and lots of water, at least four litres.
4. I strongly believe that if I get a chance to stand where I can sit, I should stand. And if I can walk instead of standing, then I walk, and I prefer taking the steps to walking.
5. I am a spiritual person. As a cardiac surgeon, you take many a patient to the brink of death and back. You need to understand that the results are never in our hands. We are a close-knit family and family brings stability.
