Close on the heels of the CES show in Las Vegas last month comes the Mobile World Congress, held in Barcelona, Spain, each year. This one has a slightly different flavour in that it’s the world's largest exhibition for the mobile industry. So naturally, there will be phones there, wall to wall. The show will begin on the 27th of February and end on 2nd March, but the buzz has already been on, smartphones being the world’s favourite gadget.
One of the most talked-about devices being showcased at the MWC is LG’s G6, which the company is naming ‘Full Vision’. It’s to be a big phone at 5.7 inches and will be all screen on the front — all really high resolution, of course. The display will be in an 18:9 ratio. It’s a successor to the G5, but is evidently taking a different direction and won’t have the same modular format that the G5 did, which is a good thing considering the G5 performed miserably in the market and lost LG a lot of money.

Nokia is expected to launch to launch an Android phone called the P1. Not a budget phone this time but a flagship, going by the rumoured price range. It is said to be a 5.3 inch phone coming with Qualcomm’s new Snapdragon 835, 6GB RAM and a 22.6MP camera with a Carl Zeiss lens. The build is rumoured to be glass though there’s also ceramic being bandied about as a possibility. The other big news about Nokia, if reports are to be believed, is that the company will relaunch its iconic Nokia 3310 at the MWC. The phone, first launched in 2000, achieved cult status thanks to its ‘indestructible’ build and never-dying battery. It is sure to find a lot of takers for the nostalgia or as a second phone, if brought back into the market.
Crackberry, the site on all things BlackBerry , says the company will launch a phone that looks every bit BlackBerry, with a keyboard. Little else is known, apart from a few specs, of this device that everyone calls Mercury.
Lenovo may be launching a Moto G5 and Moto G5 Plus in Barcelona. When it first launched, the Moto G was a game changer but since then, it has no shortage of competition. This time, Lenovo is launching the G5 and a G5 Plus but little other than what sound like budget specs is known about them. Lenovo may also launch non-Motorola phones and tablets at the show.
And let’s not forget Sony , for which rumours range from launching nothing in particular to launching six phones. It’s thought that there may not be a flagship from the company for now because the processor that everyone wants, the Qualcomm 835, is in short supply due to Samsung having snapped it all up.
Then there’s HTC, which has recently launched the HTC 10 and is busy with its virtual reality headset, Vive. The air is so thick with rumours and leaks, that it is unclear whether there will be a new phone launched at the MWC. An HTC 11 is also supposed to be coming with the Qualcomm 835, which is in short supply, forcing companies other than Samsung to wait.
