Fans of the very popular OnePlus phones probably don’t need a reason to like the phone more than they already do. But they’re getting one anyway. The Chinese company has a surprise edition in store for anyone who has not yet bought one or is on the fence about upgrading from an older version.
From July 16 onwards, a Red Edition of the OnePlus 6 will be available at ₹39,999 for a version that has 8 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. The Red is the fifth in the different flavours offered by OnePlus for its current phone for 2018. Of the other variants already launched, there is a smooth matte finish Midnight Black, which would appeal to those who have been users of the series from the first OnePlus One, a glossy Mirror Black that has a premium look harking back to the OnePlus X, a Silk White Limited Edition, which has actual crushed pearls under layers of glass and soft gold accents for an elegant and slightly feminine look and an Avenger’s Special Edition variant for fans of the Marvel comics.
The Red Edition will not be a special edition and will be available on open sale. The shade is not the same as was used on the Lava Red edition of the OnePlus 5T, but a spectacular and vibrant red that the company says is meant to inspire, empower and make the user feel positive and happy. Metallic highlights are evident near the camera and fingerprint sensor. It is, like all the other variants, made of layers of glass and will need to be protected with a case, one of which is provided in the box. The Red edition is a particularly eye-catching and unusual variant.
Not forgetting software, OnePlus has recently announced on its user forum that there will be two years of regular software updates starting from the release date of the phone, including new features, Android versions, Android security patches and bug fixes and an additional year of Android security patch updates every two months. This schedule applies to all OnePlus 3/3T, OnePlus 5/5T and OnePlus 6 devices.
