Samsung just launched its new flagships, the S8 and S8+. We caught up with Asim Warsi, Senior Vice President, Samsung India, to talk to him about how customers are expected to like the devices.
If you were asked to pick that one feature of the two new phones that will draw consumers, would you say it's the edge-to-edge Infinity Display?
I have been living with and using this device for the past eight days and I can tell you that while I try a lot of new devices at Samsung, there are few devices that I say okay, this is different or that this is an orbit shift of a device. S8 is one such device. It’s a lot more to do with an experience, innovation and expression that will appeal to consumers. There’s a reason why all our advertising is saying ‘Unbox Your Phone’. We all have stereotypical ideas about what a phone does. But when consumers begin to use and enjoy the S8, feature after feature will unfold to show that one is unshackling the conventional — really unboxing.
Very few consumers are technologists or experts. What the S8 is going to do is to elevate the experience of most users, whether they're tech savvy or not. It may happen that some people will not explore every feature but that’s a consumer choice. Those who want to use the phone for a certain aspect of the phone will get into it in-depth. The person who wants to use it for work will use the Dek accessory intensively. Those who want to use the device for entertainment will use the Infinity Display and the 4K resolution to the fullest, and so on.
One thing that makes the S8 interesting are the accessories like the camera. Are these actually going to be available? With the S7, all were not.
The camera was actually not launched in India with the S7. It was only present in selected markets. The Gear 360 will be now available and so will all other accessories showcased at launch.
