PAN-CITY INITIATIVE

The Jabalpur Municipal Corporation, which is a pioneer in solid waste management, has drawn up plans for smart waste management. This entails RFID tagging of household bins and public bins, and provision of PDA-based RFID readers for door-to-door collection. RFID tagging helps manage inventory of bins, but also provides a way to track information needed for recycling, including rewards programme. Additionally, user charges can be levied based on the fill level of every household bin. There are also plans for a GPS-based vehicle tracking and monitoring system and establishment of a Central Command and Control Centre.

AREA-BASED DEVELOPMENT

Jabalpur has plans for a “financially robust” retrofit-cum-redevelopment of 743 acres in Wright and Napier Town to regenerate its Central Business District. It will create compact, mixed-use parcels with safe public spaces. The transformation is expected to unlock a new growth axis and a series of cultural hubs (Gol Bazar, Banvartal), economic hubs (Civic Centre) and environmental hubs (Ranital lake). Also, the infrastructure in the area will be enhanced with signages, lighting, smart metering for water services, and solar power generation. It will incorporate zoning regulations, building height restrictions and so on.

Estimated Cost

3,604.7 cr
