Meaningful work, continuous learning and less rigid forms of work will drive the future of work, according to a report ‘Thriving in the Future Workforce’ which carries views of 70,000 global professionals across 500 organisations in over 20 countries in a survey conducted between June and July 2017. The report was released by Flexing It, an online marketplace for skilled workforce.

According to Chandrika Pasricha, Founder and CEO, Flexing It, “Less rigid forms of work means a more evolved and flexible set-up to work in. It is a scenario that is not constrained by a fixed 9-5 hour schedule, five times a week. In such a set-up, professionals may potentially work for multiple organisations at the same time with an outcome-focused approach and an agile and autonomous attitude. Talented professionals are likely to be less motivated and satisfied if they are constrained in a hierarchical or “please the boss” type organisations.”

In the chart, the trend of co-working is explained by Pasricha as collaborative working spaces like WeWork and Awfis or 91 Springboard, where working professionals congregate to share a common workspace. The term also encompasses hot desking. Pasricha says most of these stated trends have already started emerging in India. “It is certainly more prevalent in the US and Europe and India is fast catching up on these trends. We expect that these trends would have taken firm root in Indian organisations and workspaces within this coming decade,” she says.
